The young African-American Infantry Captain Robert McCray receives the first call to lead his battalion in a highly dangerous amphibious landing assault on the heavily fortified beach of Bougainville Island, which is occupied by the Imperial Japanese Army.
With no support from U.
Army battle tanks or U. Army aircraft on this mission, Company L 10th Infantry must start the assault as the first battalion to land on the beach and disarm the thunderous Japanese millimeter howitzer cannons that align the beach shore.
